Photographic Campaign
Language plays a substantial role in societal attitudes and to avoid perceived and subconcious dehumanisation when referring to a person (or group of people) who has (have) Down syndrome, the Down syndrome community prefer person first language.
Lose the Label photographic campaign promotes the use of person first language.
Our feature images gently highlight a more respectful way in which to speak to, or refer to someone who has Down syndrome by recognising that a person is a person first and are not defined by their diagnosis.
See our LANGUAGE GUIDE
We currently feature four phases in our social media campaign (visit our Facebook or Twitter to see more feature images)
